Household waste recycling centre/tip
Before taking materials to the Household Waste Recycling Centre/tip, have you thought about donating unwanted items to a local charity shop or an online reuse network?
For information about how to dispose of lots of household items, such as beds, cardboard etc please refer to our A to Z of rubbish.
Using the centre
The centre is a reuse, recycling and waste disposal facility for North Tyneside residents only. It is illegal for businesses to dispose of waste at this site. Please see guidelines for business waste.
We are in the process of introducing some new rules to ensure fair usage of the centre, as well as the ongoing safety and sustainability of the site.
These include new restrictions on ‘very large vehicles’ (introduced July 2017). That is any vehicle:
- over 2m high
- over 6m long
- exceeding 3.5 tonne weight
- trailers exceeding 3m length, including the tow bar
From early 2018, a FREE permit scheme will introduced for residents using smaller vans, trailers, and vehicles with commercial logos, and there will also be charges for non-household waste. Until then, vans and trailers within the size limits can continue to access the site as normal, but please be aware that changes are on the way.
Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for information on the new rules. These will be updated as the new schemes are developed.
