Summer Reading Challenge 2020

The Summer Reading Challenge 2020 is here!

This year's challenge is called Silly Squad and is all about funny books, happiness and having a laugh! The Silly Squad is a team of animal friends who love to go on adventures and get stuck into all kinds of funny books. This year the challenge features characters designed by author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson.

This year, we aren't able to run the annual Summer Reading Challenge from libraries but you can join Silly Squad on the reading challenge website and go on an adventure by setting your own personal reading challenge to complete this summer. The Silly Squad website will help you keep track of your books, reviews, and the rewards you unlock along the way. Go to

You can access eBooks and eAudio books for free via North Tyneside Libraries’ BorrowBox service, choosing from a fun selection of books that can be downloaded to a personal device to read or listen to. If you aren’t a library member it is easy to join online at http://https:/

Our libraries aren’t fully open yet, but we are offering an order and collect service at these libraries: Wallsend, North Shields, Whitley Bay, Killingworth, Oxford Centre, John Willie Sams Centre. Find out more here:

As part of this year's challenge we are offering you the chance to do Arts Award Discover. This is about discovering the arts around you, finding out about artists like authors and illustrators, and sharing what you have done. Download the workbook below and return it to us to claim your certificate once it’s complete!
