Local mental health and disability services

Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust provide urgent care, planned care and specialist services.

Dental services

Northumbria Dental Service provides specialised NHS dental treatment and oral health promotion services for adults and children in Northumberland and North Tyneside who have been referred by a medical or dental practitioner or other health or social care professional.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapist work with children from 0 -19 years, who:

  • live or attend school in Northumberland or North Tyneside
  • have problems with the development of their movement
  • have conditions which affect their movement or have had musculo-skeletal injuries

Speech and language therapy

Speech and language therapists work with children and young people aged 0-19 with

  • eating and drinking and needs
  • speech and language needs
  • communication needs

Voluntary and community sector support

The Alan Shearer Centre is a specialist, respite, residential and social facility for people with complex disabilities and acute sensory impairments. The centre provides:

  • a specialist recreational, sensory and social resource for disabled people of all ages
  • respite breaks in a safe and specially adapted environment for people with a range of disabilities and behavioural issues
  • residential accommodation for adults with profound and multiple disabilities
