Introduction
A major scheme to improve the Forest Hall shopping area is complete.
Delivered by North Tyneside Council's partner Capita, the scheme was aimed at:
• Creating a more inclusive and aesthetically pleasing environment;
• Reallocating space to pedestrians and cyclists;
• Creating open spaces;
• Increasing business use and turnover;
• And improving and enhancing the parking allocation.
Improvements
The improvements at Forest Hall include:
• Introduction of a raised table at the junction of Station Road, Station Road North and Lansdowne Road. This will create a degree of traffic calming (particularly on Station Road) without impacting on existing traffic flows
• New zebra crossing on Station Road, just south of the junction with Station Road North and Springfield Park
• Tactile paving provided on all arms of the junction
• Extension of existing parallel parking bay on Lansdowne Road
• Improved footpath surfacing (paving) to the front of all shops on the north side of Station Road North (from the Flying Scotsman public house to Lansdowne Road)
• Increase width of footways to the rear of parking bays to a minimum of 1.5metres
• Introduction of new cycle stands
• Introduction of new seating area at Central Piazza (Greggs)
• Trees retained to enhance streetscape environment
• Introduction of new parallel parking bays on south side of Station Road North
• Resurfacing of Station Road North; centreline omitted to encourage lower speeds and support impression of an inclusive environment
