A189/A1056 Weetslade roundabout

Overview of improvements

The construction team has now completed works at the A189/A1056 Weetslade roundabout*.

In 2013, Bellway Homes was granted planning permission, upon appeal, for the construction of 366 homes at Whitehouse Farm in West Moor – known as Moorfields.

The works formed part of the planning conditions associated with this approval. The highway mitigation works included improving the capacity of the roundabout, improvements for pedestrians and cyclists and a permanent closure of the roundabout’s south-west arm (Great Lime Road) to motorists.

The scheme will help encourage active and sustainable travel. It will also help North Tyneside become a cleaner, greener borough as part of plans to work towards being carbon net zero by 2030.

*The traffic signals are being monitored by the regional traffic signals team (the team – independent of North Tyneside Council – with responsibility for signalling across the region). Further programming of the traffic signals will take place over time so that they respond more intelligently to actual traffic flows around the clock.
