Housing and Property Services - What we do

Housing and Property Services is responsible for the delivery of all repairs, maintenance and construction activity to the housing stock, public buildings, and schools across North Tyneside.

We have some ambitious plans and key service priorities for the upcoming year, including:

  • Over £26m annually invested in our council homes, from kitchen and bathroom replacements to replacing the roofs.
  • We deliver over 45,000 responsive repairs per year across our 14,000 homes
  • Complete over 3,000 repairs to our Public Buildings across the borough
  • Provide 5,000 affordable homes
  • Reduce the number of derelict properties across the borough to support our affordable homes programme
  • Provide a fit for purpose housing stock which supports a thriving, secure and green borough

What will I be doing?

Although as a qualified tradesperson you may be asked to work across different services areas, this event will focus on finding motivated individuals to support our Kitchen and Bathroom replacement programme.

This service area consists of a dedicated, highly skilled team of approximately 30 individuals. We target around 400 properties each year replacing the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as electrical refurbishments.

The work is extremely rewarding with a real sense of satisfaction for those involved.

Sound good? What do you need to bring?

Not a lot is the simple answer.

If you have an up-to-date CV, that outlines your career history, please bring this along to share with us on the day.

We want to be able to have an informal, experience and skills-based conversation with you and by bringing your CV, you will support us with this conversation. If you don’t have a CV, don’t worry, we would love to chat with you anyway.

As this is a qualified trade event, we would also like to see proof of your qualification, such as a certificate. Again, don’t worry if you don’t have this available to the day. This is something we can get from you at a later date.

We also understand that not everyone will have a qualification and that length of experience can often be equally important, so if this is you, please come along and have a chat with one of our team.

If we think you're the type of person we are looking for, with experience and values that match ours, then the job is yours.

Sounds good to be true - What's the catch?

No catch. It really is this simple.

We just need to do a few little checks before we can issue you a contract.

These include:

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Medical discussion with one of our Occupational Health professionals
  • Two references (Ideally one from your last employer)
