North Tyneside #InTheLoop

We have received funding from Hubbub, a leading UK environmental charity, to join their #InTheLoop campaign to reduce litter and improve recycling on-the-go.

In North Tyneside, we are lucky to have some of the best beaches and coastal areas in the UK. Through the #InTheLoop campaign, we want to provide more opportunities for visitors and residents to dispose of waste responsibly and keep our beautiful coastal areas clean.

Recycling bins

We have installed eye-catching recycling bins in some of the busiest places along our seafront to make it easier for visitors and residents to recycle their plastic bottles and cans.

You can find the new recycling bins at:

  • St Mary’s Car Park
  • Brierdene Car Park
  • Dukes Walk
  • Spanish City
  • Whitley Bay Promenade
  • Cullercoats Bay
  • Tynemouth Aquarium
  • Boating Lake
  • Outdoor Pool
  • Sea Banks
  • Tynemouth Priory
  • Spanish Battery
  • Fish Quay

Being a bold, bright yellow, they are hard to miss! Look out for this wayfinding signage to find your nearest recycling bin.

Litter picking sessions

Litter picking kits are being hosted by local businesses along the coast to support volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities. The kits contain all the equipment needed to carry out a spontaneous litter pick including litter pickers, high vis jackets, bin bag carriers, gloves and more. The kits are free to use and available to everyone.

Look out for signage along the coast to find your nearest litter picking station and the window stickers (seen below) on participating businesses:

If you are a business or local organisation along the coast who would like to get involved by hosting a litter picking kit, please contact us: carbon@northtyneside.gov.uk
