CV and job application advice
Looking for a job can be exciting, frustrating and scary - especially if you are new to the world of work. It may be best to think of job hunting as a ‘job’ in itself. It takes time, thought, effort and determination. In a competitive job market, you need to make your application stand out!
A starting point is your CV (or Curriculum Vitae – which means ‘the pathway you have taken through life’) and is a document that tells the employer about you - what subjects you have studied, what qualifications you have got, and any jobs you have done. It’s your personal statement, plus facts about your life.
For young people, the Connexions service offers advice and guidance to take you through the job search process, identifying your strengths, putting together a CV, and applying for jobs.
