PETER MORTIMER's new book is a highly unusual two-wheel odyssey, a random journey through the wilds of Scotland and northern England finding chess opponents en route.
Each opponent then despatches Mortimer to a new location of their own choosing where he must find another chess player to challenge him. Fourteen games cycled over 19 days and via more than 400 miles, the whole experience captured with the author's typical keen-eyed wit and observation.
