Committed carers sought for new scheme

Press release: An abstract view of the Council crest

North Tyneside Council are looking for dedicated foster carers to help teach pro-social skills to young people as part of a new scheme.

The council are launching a new Adolescent Specialist Placement Scheme (ASPS), offering short-term placements to children over the age of 12 in preparation for a return to family, long-term placement or independence.

North Tyneside’s fostering and adoption service is seeking a limited number of carers, primarily outside of the borough, who are willing to play a part in preparing young people for opportunities in their futures.

As well as frequent and flexible support from a dedicated social worker, successful applicants will also have access to a range of core and specialist training courses provided by the fostering and adoption service.

Foster carers should have an understanding of the risks to children or young people, such as issues with anger management or risk-taking, and have the resiliency and commitment to manage challenging teenage behaviour.

A successful applicant will need have a spare room, time to help and encourage a young person, a car to enable attendance at school or college or other commitments generally in North Tyneside.

For more information or to apply to be a part of the scheme, please contact Jerry Tremaine on (0191) 643 2540 or email ASPS@northtyneside.gov.uk.
