The best of the borough’s businesses will be recognised at the annual North Tyneside Business Awards.
North Tyneside Business Forum are now inviting businesses of all sectors and sizes to submit their applications for this prestigious event which will take place in December.
Businesses can enter any of the seven categories, and all individual winners will be automatically entered for the coveted North Tyneside Business of the Year Award.
Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn is urging all local businesses to send in their applications. She said: “Here in North Tyneside we value the huge contribution that all businesses make to the local economy and how they make our borough a great place to live, work and visit.
“These Awards are the perfect platform for businesses to showcase their work to a wide audience, demonstrate their commitment to the borough and congratulate their employees. It is always a fantastic occasion and I hope this is a bumper year of entries.”

The categories are:
New Business
The best new business created in North Tyneside which has been trading for less than 24 months.
- Summary of original business plan
- Potential for growth
- Greatest challenges and successes
Apprentice Employer
The employer of one or more apprentices which demonstrates a high level of commitment to the employees.
- Evidence of developing the workforce through apprentices
- Demonstrable support to apprenticeship programmes, including the training element
- Ability to move with the times and create opportunities for the emerging workforce
Export
The business which has generated a substantial increase in export from the borough
- Evidence of noticeable growth to the business as a result of exporting
- The barriers that have had to be overcome to enable to business to export
- Innovative ways which products have been promoted to overseas markets
Retail and Service Provider
Any business which sells a product or service to the public.
- Quality or originality of the offer
- Evidence of great customer care and attention to customer needs
- Ability to move with the times and develop new techniques
Leisure and Tourism
The business which has helped to enhance the leisure and tourism offer of North Tyneside
- Quality and originality of the offer
- Growth of client base/profile of users outside of the borough
- Range of products and services to rival other business
Manufacturing and Construction
Any business which is in the engineering, manufacturing or construction field
- How the business has adapted its offer to make best use of new technologies
- The use of local supply chains and services where possible, and employment of local people
- Use of environmentally friendly products and services
Green Business & Sustainability Award
The business which has done the most to promote environmentally sustainable practices and reduce carbon emissions.
- Evidence of a clear carbon reduction/ energy efficiency strategy
- Embedding “green thinking” in own workforce and more widely in the community
- Use of environmentally friendly products and practices

The deadline for all applications is Friday 7 October. The competition is open to all private sector businesses from all sectors and sizes. All applicants must have been trading for a minimum of six months on October 7, 2016. For the purposes of this competition, Start-Ups are identified as those who have been trading for less than 24 months on October 7.

Further Information:
The Judging Panel will consist of representatives from sponsoring organisations and North Tyneside Council’s Business Team who will consider how well applicants meet the stated criteria for each category. The panel’s decision is final and will be based solely on information provided in the application form.
Previous entrants and winners are welcome to apply. Businesses which are funded by public sector organisations are not eligible to enter these awards. All businesses which enter these awards will automatically become members of the North Tyneside Business Forum.
Businesses may apply for more than one award however MUST use a separate application form. Entries for multiple awards on one application form will not be accepted.
