A prolific shop lifter has been banned from entering North Shields Town Centre following a court ruling.
A county court judge granted the two year civil injunction following an application by North Tyneside Council.
Under the terms of the injunction, which was granted on Monday 8 August, Sarah Campbell is prevented from entering the town centre between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm.
The injunction prevents Campbell from being abusive, using foul language or from harassing any person within the town centre and surrounding areas.
Campbell faces immediate arrest and can be sent to prison for up to two years if she breaches the terms of the court order which remain in force for two years.
Colin Boxshall, the council’s community protection manager, said “This court order reaffirms our resolve to protect communities from crime and anti-social behaviour.
“Our management of anti-social behaviour cases demonstrates a clear focus on protecting people from harm and on supporting victims and witnesses.
“Everyone has the right to enjoy peace and quiet in their own homes and neighbourhood and in partnership with the police we will take whatever action necessary to protect that right”
Officers from the council’s community and public spaces protection team have now delivered posters to shops and businesses in the area.
North Shields Acting Inspector Barbara Gilhespy added: "We are pleased that this prolific shoplifter has now been banned from entering North Shields town centre during the daytime.
"I hope this two-year civil injunction will put a stop to this offending behaviour and I'd urge the public and retailers to help enforce it. If anyone sees Campbell in the town centre between 8am and 8pm then let us know by calling 101.
"This court injunction is due to close partnership work between Northumbria Police and North Tyneside Council to ensure the public receive the best possible service by giving the police and courts greater powers to deal with Sarah Campbell more effectively.”
