A pledge made with the environment in mind has paid off in a big way for one green-fingered North Tyneside resident.
As part of the council’s ‘Changing Our Thinking’ campaign, which provides rewards and incentives to encourage people to recycle, a local resident has won high street shopping vouchers worth £100.
This month’s winner was Malcolm Bowie, of Cullercoats, after he made, and stuck to, his pledge to wash, squash and recycle.
Delighted with his win, Malcolm said: "I pledged at one of the Mayors' listening events when I was picking up a wheelie bin pencil sharpener for my grandson"
Cllr John Stirling, cabinet member with responsibility for the Environment, said: “I’m extremely happy for Malcolm and would like to thank him for committing to the wash, squash and recycle pledge.
“The ‘Changing Our Thinking’ campaign has continued its success throughout the year and it has been great to see more and more people commit to recycling in North Tyneside.
“We are committed to maintaining our borough as a great place to live, work and visit and the effort we see from our residents plays a big part in that.”
Residents have until October 14, 2016 to make their pledge online or by visiting a local event. The next roadshow will take place at Wide Open Library Summer Fayre on August 23 from 2pm to 5pm.

Notes to editors:
The campaign is being delivered by North Tyneside Council in partnership with Groundwork North East, an environmental regeneration charity.
It is funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government's Weekly Collection Support Scheme.
The weekly and monthly prize winners were picked at random.
