Prize pooches sought for competition

Time is running out for dog-lovers looking to enter their pooches into one of North Tyneside’s most popular events.

On Saturday, September 3, the fifth annual Summer Dog Oscars will take place between 11am and 3pm at Richardson Dees Park, Wallsend.

Friends of Wallsend Park, supported by North Tyneside Council, are hosting the ever-popular family fun event, where over 100 dogs and 1,000 visitors are expected to be in attendance.

The competition – which this year will take place at the formal south end of the park – has 7 categories, including dog most resembling their owner and waggiest tail, plus a best in show finale.

Each category winner will receive a prize from one of the independent judges on the day.

Dogs can be registered in their respective categories in advance, with the show due to start at 12.20pm on the day. Dogs can be registered on the day but pre-registration is preferable. Dogs can be entered into more than one category.

Application forms are available on the Friends’ Facebook page and must be submitted by 12pm on the day.

A range of stalls surrounding an arena means all can take part and watch the spectacle. To register your interest in a stall, contact Friends of Wallsend Park Events Facilitator Sharon Cook on fowp@hotmail.co.uk.
