A calendar showcasing some of the best views in North Tyneside goes on sale this week.
The 12 stunning images were taken by budding photographers from North Tyneside, and include fantastic snaps of St Mary’s Lighthouse, North Shields Fish Quay, Northumberland Park, Marden Quarry, Cullercoats Bay and the award-winning coastline in Tynemouth.
The pictures were selected from over 200 entries to a photography competition held by North Tyneside Council this summer to capture residents’ favourite views of the borough. Fifteen of those images were chosen to feature in a new campaign – We are North Tyneside – that celebrates what makes North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit.
Copies of the calendars are available from tourist information centres in Whitley Bay and North Shields for £3.50. 50p from each sale will support the council’s Make Christmas Special appeal which provides gifts, meals and companionship to people who may otherwise spend Christmas alone.
Elected Mayor for North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn, said: “This beautiful calendar shows North Tyneside at its best – from our fantastic beaches to our outstanding parks.
“I was thrilled to see so many residents take part in the competition and sharing their pride in the place they call home. Their photographs are helping us to put North Tyneside on the map while supporting a great cause like Make Christmas Special.”
The We are North Tyneside campaign launched in September. It aims to attract new investment and visitors to the area by raising the profile of opportunities, facilities and activities in North Tyneside.

Notes to editors
Make Christmas Special is a project run by North Tyneside Council with community and voluntary organisations and churches. It encourages people to donate time or money to help lonely people during the festive season. People can get involved by: donating a present; sponsoring a Christmas lunch for someone; transporting someone to and from a Christmas Day celebration; preparing and serving a Christmas meal. In 2015, 110 people in North Tyneside benefitted from the Make Christmas Special appeal.
