Find out more about 'outstanding' primary teacher training

North Tyneside Council’s ‘Outstanding’ primary school teacher training service is holding an open event next month (November), for graduates interested in a teaching career.

The course offers Qualified Teacher Status and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, accredited by Northumbria University. It continues to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (2015) and 100 per cent of trainees this year were ‘very satisfied’ with the course and 100 per cent would recommend the SCITT programme to others.

Combining high quality, extensive classroom based experience, with expert guidance and support, the course welcomes trainees of all ages and is open to anyone with a 2:2 degree or above. It will equip trainees with the necessary subject knowledge and practical skills to be able to teach anywhere.  Trainees will also be provided with a free laptop, free wi-fi access and free office printing.

The information event is taking place on Thursday 24 November at the Langdale Centre, Langdale Gardens, Wallsend from 4.15 to 6pm.  Members of the teaching team will be on hand and the training facilities will be on show. The team are keen to encourage prospective trainees to come along and find out how the course can lead to a successful career in primary teaching.

The course is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme, where learners can secure Qualified Teacher Status and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, validated by Northumbria University.

To reserve a place please contact the SCITT office. Tel: (0191) 643 8855 or Email: scitt@northtyneside.gov.uk.

Notes to Editors:

The North Tyneside SCITT is a partnership of 34 North Tyneside schools and the programme is managed by North Tyneside Council. It also has close links with the local authority’s School Improvement Service and the New York Teaching School Alliance which offers School Direct teacher training places for Key Stages 1 and 2 (aged 5 – 11 years).

It’s the second consecutive ‘outstanding’ judgement for the programme, which was also rated as outstanding in its last inspection in 2009.
