North Tyneside is the place to be for book-lovers this autumn as libraries across the borough prepare to celebrate a national campaign.
As part of the BBC’s Love to Read campaign, North Tyneside Council’s library service is looking to inspire local readers with a number of special activities.
To help inspire others to read something different, ‘Love to Read’ postcards are now available at libraries for visitors to make recommendations. Suggestions can also be tweeted to @northtynelibs using the hashtag #lovetoread. Photos of favourite places to read are also invited via Twitter.
Cllr Eddie Darke, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “The ‘Love to Read’ campaign is an excellent opportunity for keen readers to make new friends and share recommendations with people who have the same interests.
“We have so many great libraries putting on a number of fantastic events in North Tyneside and I’d urge any readers, dedicated or casual, to come along and see what’s on offer.”
The campaign will culminate with a special ‘Love to Read’ weekend taking place on November 5 and 6, which will also mark the launch of North Tyneside’s very own ‘Reading Bingo’.
Readers from around the borough will be challenged to read something that they wouldn’t normally read and anyone who completes a line or a full house on their bingo card will be entered into a fantastic prize draw with a chance to win an android tablet, a Kobo e-reader and a selection of books.
Bingo cards will include categories such as a book that became a film, a book from your childhood, an e-book or audiobook and a magazine or graphic novel. There will be displays and book lists available in all libraries to help you find the book for you.
Library users in North Tyneside have access to over 300,000 books on a variety of platforms. As well as the stock in libraries, members can download a range of e-books, audiobooks and popular magazines straight on to their tablet, computer or mobile.
For more information on events or the campaign as a whole, call into any North Tyneside library.
