Remembrance services to pay tribute to the fallen

People are being invited to come together in North Tyneside and honour those who fought and died in the two World Wars and other more recent conflicts.

Services are taking place throughout the borough on Remembrance Day Friday 11 November and Remembrance Sunday November 13.

REMEMBRANCE DAY FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER

Killingworth – Jig Saw War Memorial at 11am

This year the Act of Remembrance and two-minute silence at the Post-1945 Jigsaw Memorial at Killingworth White Swan Centre will also feature a plaque dedication to Royal Navy sailor Simon Lawson from Whitley Bay who was killed in action on HMS Ardent in May 1982 during the Falklands War.   

The service will include representatives from Lord Lieutenants Office, the Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn, Services personnel, the Council, Reservists, Cadets, Forces Associations and local schools.   The service will include a two minute silence followed by the laying of wreaths and Remembrance Crosses.   The service begins at 11am and all attending are asked to assemble at 10.45.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER:

WALLSEND – The War Memorial, Burns Closes at 11am.

The procession will set off from Richardson Street, opposite the former Town Hall at 10.35am, travelling down High Street East, across the Burn Bridge to Archer Street and the Burn Closes War Memorial, where the service will begin at 11am.

NORTH SHIELDS – The War Memorial, Hawkey’s Lane at 11am.

The service will be preceded by a Parade of Service Units and representatives of local organisations, leaving Queen Alexandra College in Hawkey’s Lane at 10.35am.  The parade will head towards the war memorial on Hawkey’s Lane.  The service is organised by the Whitley Bay, North Shields and District Royal British Legion. 

LONGBENTON – War Memorial, St Bartholomew’s Church at 11am

The parade will leave from the Forest Hall Ex-Servicemen’s Institute, Crescent Way North at 10.30am, marching along Station Road to St Bartholomew’s Church for wreath laying at 11am at the War Memorial, followed by a Church Service.  This service is organised by the Forest Hall Royal British Legion. 

WHITLEY BAY – War Memorial, The Links, Whitley Bay at 3pm.

The parade will leave from the Royal British Legion on Victoria Terrace at 2.30pm and march along Park Avenue to the War Memorial on The Links, for the service.  The service is organised by the Whitley Bay, North Shields and District Royal British Legion.
