Almost 50 young people are taking over North Tyneside Council today (November 18).
As part of the Children’s Commissioner’s National Takeover Day, 48 children and young people from schools across North Tyneside will be finding out what life is like working at one of the borough’s largest employer.
From getting their feet wet poolside at the leisure centres and helping out in the environment depot, to finding out what a day is like in the Registrar’s Office, they will join a range of teams throughout the day.
They’ll be involved in some decision making and have the chance to suggest ways to improve services for the benefit of children and young people living and studying in the borough.
North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn said: “National Takeover Day always offers a great opportunity for young people to find out about what the council does and to have their say on services that affect them.
“I am delighted we’ve had the chance to invite young people to take part for the sixth year and I hope they find it a fun, enjoyable and informative event.”
Liberty Charlton, 15, from Churchill Community College, joined the council’s Law and Governance team for the day. She said: “I’m really excited to be working with the Law and Governance team today. Law is so interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing the types of things they deal with at the council.”
National Takeover Day, organised by the Office for the Children’s Commissioner, offers children across the country the chance to work alongside adults and get involved in decision-making in a wide range of organisations, and this is the sixth time North Tyneside Council has taken part.
