North Tyneside Council will introduce a range of new measures to improve traffic congestion around Hadrian Park, Wallsend caused by works at Silverlink.

In response to feedback from residents to the Mayor and local Councillors, new measures will be in place around Addington Drive to alleviate road congestion for residents in the area.

Working with Highways England, the council will introduce the following measures from Wednesday 30 November:

  • Traffic lights at the south end of Addington Drive during the morning peak to manage traffic flow. These are temporary and will be piloted in the run up to Christmas.
  • Alterations to the road markings at the Addington Drive roundabout and Willington Square junction to manage the flow of traffic. These alterations will be made within five days.
  • Additional signage to encourage drivers to use the fastest route into Cobalt Business Park.

Drivers are being advised to use the Silverlink junction to travel into Cobalt Business Park rather than travelling through Middle Engine Lane. This route is quicker and will minimise congestion around the Hadrian Park area.

A map detailing the route is available here and on the council’s Facebook and Twitter page. Drivers should also visit those pages for the latest traffic updates for the borough.
