Residents are invited to come along and celebrate the armed forces with a special parade through the centre of Wallsend.
The Freedom of the Borough Parade will take place on Saturday, March 11, giving the people of North Tyneside an opportunity to thank and honour the people who fight for their country.
Starting at 11.30am with the inspection of the troops in Coronation Street Car Park, on High Street East, the parade will run off towards High Street West for the salute and conclusion on West Street.
The parade will include armoured vehicles and will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, as well as the Chairman of the Council, Cllr Dave McGarr.
Looking forward to the event, Cllr McGarr said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to pay our thanks to the amazing men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping our country safe.
“They do so much for us and I’m delighted that we are able to take this opportunity to show how grateful we are with this excellent event.”
This event is part of a weekend full of activities at the Army Reserve Centre in Debdon Gardens, in Heaton, where people can attend a community open day on Sunday, March 12, where military vehicles, equipment and an army field kitchen will be on display.
