North Tyneside Council is inviting residents to nominate their volunteering heroes for an award.
The Chairman’s Commendation scheme is held every year to celebrate the contribution of individuals and groups who give up their free time to volunteer in communities across the borough.
Hosted every year, the awards recognise the important role of volunteers in the borough and seek to raise awareness of the work they have carried out, and highlight opportunities for others to get involved.
Now the council is asking residents to nominate the individuals or groups whose efforts have made a difference within the borough.
Chairman of North Tyneside, Cllr Dave McGarr, said: “Volunteering is at the heart of every strong and active community, and it’s really important to recognise the contribution that volunteers make to everyday life in North Tyneside.
“There is something very commendable about giving up your free time to do some work in your community, without expecting anything in return, and the Chairman’s Commendation is our small way of showing that we appreciate their efforts.
If you know someone - an individual or group - who you think deserves recognition for their volunteering efforts, you can nominate someone for the Chairman’s Commendation Award here.
Nominees do not have to live in North Tyneside but must undertake a voluntary role in the borough.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 17 May and all nominations will be considered by the Commendation Award Panel.
Successful nominees and their nominator will be invited to attend an awards presentation in the Council Chamber, at Quadrant, on Tuesday 13 June – just days after the end of Volunteers’ Week.
Alternatively, please email carol.girvan@northtyneside.gov.uk with your nomination or request a paper nomination form by calling Tel: 0191 643 5347
