Crackdown on 'tyre-tipping' in North Tyneside

North Tyneside Council is cracking down on incidents of ‘tyre-tipping’ in the borough.

Following reports of tyres being dumped in some areas of the borough; the council is taking action and is asking residents to be vigilant.

Council officers will be doing additional patrols in areas of the borough to monitor the situation, and anyone caught fly-tipping will be issued with a fixed penalty notice.

Carl Johnson, cabinet member for Environment and Transport, said: “As the council, we strive to maintain North Tyneside as a great place to live, work and visit, and we will not allow a small minority of people to spoil this for the responsible majority.

“Our officers do a fantastic job of enforcing these legislations and ensuring that this kind of anti-social behaviour does not go unpunished.

“I’d like to encourage any residents who see or hear about any instances of fly-tipping to report them to us, so that we can make sure that our borough looks its very best at all times.”

The council’s Community Protection team has been issuing fixed penalty notices to residents or businesses caught fly-tipping since October 2017. FPNs up to £400 can be issued for fly-tipping and failure to pay the fine can result in prosecution.
