A prominent seafront location in Whitley Bay has been put up for sale by North Tyneside Council.
Developers are invited to make offers for the land at the former Whisky Bends pub on the Promenade.
The derelict pub was bought by the council in 2014 and demolished earlier this year as part of the £36m Seafront Master Plan to regenerate and revitalise the coastline from St Mary’s Island to Cullercoats Bay.
The council’s preference for the Whisky Bends site is residential development. Other uses may also be considered subject to obtaining the necessary planning consent.
The sale of the site is being handled by Strategic Property, a service provided for the council by its partner Capita.
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn CBE, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the right developer to come in and play an important role in the transformation of Whitley Bay.
“Business in the local area is booming as a result of our multi-million pound investment, the place looks spectacular, and visitor numbers are growing all the time.
“At the heart of it all is the Whisky Bends site. With its spectacular sea views and the new-look Spanish City on the doorstep, this is a site that is crying out for high quality homes. We look forward to hearing from interested parties.”
There are number of new residential developments already underway along the coast on sites that were also bought by the local authority.
Work is progressing on the construction of 12 new homes on the site of the former Avenue pub on the corner of Park Avenue and Brook Street.
And High Point View is a development 14 luxury townhouses on the site of the former High Point Hotel on the Promenade.
The closing date for offers on the site of the former Whisky Bends pub is noon on Friday 17 August 2018.
