Entry for one of the UK’s most scenic road races is now open.
Places are up for grabs for the hugely popular North Tyneside 10k Road Race.
Organised by North Tyneside Council, it takes place on Easter Sunday (April 21, 2019).
It starts at The Parks Sports Centre in North Shields before taking in the Fish Quay, the River Tyne, Tynemouth Priory and Castle and a long stretch of coastline, then finishes at St. Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.
North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn CBE said: “North Tyneside is a great location for sporting events and the race has definitely established itself as a firm favourite in the athletics calendar. I know many people will be looking forward to it.”
Runners travel from across the UK to compete in the tough coastal course, and with last year's race being an early sell-out, runners are being urged to enter quickly to avoid disappointment.
The entry fee is £17 for a UK Athletics Club member and £18 for a non-club member and includes chip timing, results by SMS, video clips and a goody bag with souvenir t-shirt.
The 6.2 mile event is organised by North Tyneside Council with support from Start Fitness.
This year’s race was won by Morpeth Harriers runner Ross Floyd in a time of 33 minutes and 12 seconds. The first female runner over the line was Charlotte Penfold, of North Shields Poly, in a time of 37 minutes and 6 seconds.
The course record stands at 30 minutes and 20 seconds, set by Mongolian athlete Serod Batochir in 2011.
