Movie magic attracts 3,000 visitors to North Tyneside parks

A week of open air movie magic brought an estimated 3,000 visitors to parks across North Tyneside.

North Tyneside Council hosted a free programme of family films, in which blockbuster movies were beamed on to a 21sq metre screen at seven parks in the borough.

Families brought picnic hampers and laid out blankets to enjoy movies such as Peter Rabbit, at Richardson Dees Park, and sing along with The Greatest Showman, at Northumberland Park.

Films were also shown at Benton Quarry Park, Springfield Park in Forest Hall, Killingworth Lakeside, Rising Sun Country Park, and Lockey Park in Wideopen.

Councillor Sarah Day, Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Tourism, said: “Our award-winning parks make a slightly unconventional but stunning backdrop for an outdoor cinema experience.

“Fortunately we had good weather all week and the attendances exceeded our expectations. It was really wonderful to see local people, visitors and families coming out to enjoy these films in such beautiful surroundings.”

All the films were free to attend. Other screenings included Moana, The Incredibles 2, Lego Movie 2, Lego Batman Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.
