Excitement building for Tour of Britain

Residents and businesses in North Tyneside are gearing up for the OVO Energy Tour of Britain on Monday (9 September).

Stage Three of the race will see some of the world’s top riders and teams contest a 114-mile route from Berwick, through Northumberland, before heading along the North Tyneside coast and into Wallsend and finishing in Newcastle city centre.

It will be the first ever Tour of Britain stage to link all areas of the North of Tyne Combined Authority – Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle.

The race is expected to start at 11am before arriving in North Tyneside, first in Whitley Bay, at just after 3pm.

It will continue along the coast, through Cullercoats and Tynemouth, before heading along Percy Park Road and Tynemouth Road, down Tanners Bank and along the Fish Quay.

Riders will then turn into Dock Road and past The Parks sports centre and continue along the A187 before heading towards Wallsend on the A193. They then turn left onto the A186 Station Road and right onto Buddle Street before heading towards Walker, the Quayside and finishing on Grey Street in Newcastle city centre at approx. 3.36pm.

A series of rolling road closures will be in place – more information can be found at https://www.northoftyne-tob.co.uk

North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn CBE said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to show off our beautiful borough and some of our fantastic landmarks and I look forward to seeing large crowds lining the streets to welcome the riders.”
