A new housing development which is nearing completion on the Whitley Bay seafront is in contention for a hat-trick of national awards.
Empress Point is a development of 12 new luxury homes on the corner of Park Avenue and Brook Gardens, the site where the derelict Avenue pub stood before it was demolished in 2015 as part of the council’s seafront regeneration programme.
The homes, which overlook the seafront and the award-winning Spanish City Dome, are being delivered by Aurora Properties on behalf of North Tyneside Council and built by Kier.
Over half have been sold and the first residents are preparing to move in.
Now the project has been shortlisted for three Inside Housing awards for Best Development (up to 50 homes). Best Regeneration Project and Market Sale Development of the Year, reflecting the outstanding design and build quality of the project.
The awards celebrate the very best residential developments across the UK from the past year, with awards recognising landlords, developers and architects, across 14 categories.
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn CBE, said: “I am extremely proud that Empress Point has been nominated for these important national awards.
“This piece of land was a blight which the community was keen to see redeveloped.
“The stunning homes that we now see on this site have proven to be extremely popular and it’s easy to see why when you consider how the area has been transformed in recent years.
“As well as vastly improving the look and feel of the seafront and providing high quality homes, Empress Point will deliver another economic boost and bring added support for local businesses, as the rebirth of Whitley Bay continues.”
Anyone interested in viewing one of the remaining properties at Empress Point are urged to move quickly and should make enquiries to chris.grabham@wearesignature.co.uk or Tel: 0191 253 4815.
The winners of the Inside Housing awards will be announced on November 27 in London.
