Consultation is under way on North Tyneside Council’s updated strategy to identify and deal with contaminated land in the borough.
The local authority’s Contaminated Land Strategy was last reviewed in 2014 and it is a requirement of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to ensure it remains up to date.
The revised document now links to the Local Plan, approved by Council in 2017, which emphasises development as a route to bring contaminated land back into beneficial use and improve the environment.
Other amendments include changes to reflect local and national planning policy as well as new national guidance relating to mining and ground water.
The draft strategy was developed by the Environmental Health service, which is delivered for the council by its partner Capita.
Consultation on the strategy began on Monday, September 30 and will run until Sunday, November 10, 2019. The draft strategy can be viewed on the council website at www.northtyneside.gov.uk by searching for ‘Have your say’.
