Children from Sir James Knott Nursery School in Tynemouth paid a special visit to a local day care centre for the elderly.
The school was inundated with donations of food items for its Harvest collection after putting out a plea to parents.
Nursery children then spent time carefully making hampers full of the donations for elderly members of the Tynemouth Village Day Care Centre.
The little ones then paid a special surprise visit to the group to deliver the food parcels.
John Croft, head teacher at Sir James Knott Nursery, a North Tyneside Council nursery, said: “It was great that parents were so generous with their donations and the children really enjoyed putting the hampers together.
“They were extremely excited to come along to the day care centre too and meet some of the members here.
“We decided we wanted to do something to help the elderly members of our community so that’s why we got in touch with the group and we also made a donation to Changing Lives for the Homeless.”
Group member Irene said: “It was a lovely surprise and you forget how gorgeous young children look as we’re all older!
“I think it’s good for both us and the children.”
Another member Alma added: “I think it’s wonderful – and the parents for giving us all of this to help people like us.”
After Christmas the school will be starting an integration project with the members of the day care centre.
