North Tyneside will be paying its respects to those who have lost their lives defending their country this coming Remembrance Day.
North Tyneside Council will be running a number of events held across the borough on both November 10, and Remembrance Sunday itself, on November 11.
Following comments from residents at the events held last year, as well as the significance and growing popularity of the events to the people of North Tyneside, there is greater focus on attendees and their experience.
All events are free to attend and open to anyone. Details of all the events taking place can be found below:
Remembrance Sunday – 10 November 2019
Wallsend
Organisations will form up in Richardson Street at 10.30am to leave at 10.35am arriving at the War Memorial, Burns Closes for 10.55am. On conclusion of the service the parade will return back to the Town Hall where a march past will take place.
North Shields
The parade will leave Tyne Met College on Hawkey’s Lane at 10.30am arriving at the War Memorial at 10.50am for commencement of the service at 10.55am. The parade will reform and ‘march past’ before concluding at Tyne Met College.
Longbenton
The parade will assemble at 10.15am at the Ex-Servicemen’s Institute, Crescent Way North, Forest Hall, leaving in procession at 10.25am. The parade will march to the Cenotaph within the grounds of St Bartholomew’s Church, Station Road, Benton where wreaths will be laid. The event will conclude with a service in the Church.
Whitley Bay
The parade will assemble from 2.30pm in Victoria Terrace, Whitley Bay, leaving at 2.50pm to march in procession to the Cenotaph situated on the Links where the service will take place at 3pm.
Sunday 10 November, 11.15am – 2.30pm
Spanish City Remembrance Event
Entertainment will be provided by local bands and singers including Bay Uke, Backworth Male Voice choir and Killingworth Community Choir.
Armistace Day - 11 November 2019
Killingworth White Swan
An act of remembrance and two minutes silence will take place at the North Tyneside Post 1945 Jigsaw Memorial on Monday 11th November. The short service will be held at the White Swan Centre, Citadel East, Killingworth commencing at 11 am.

Backworth
The act of remembrance and wreath laying will commence at 12pm at the Backworth War Memorial, Village Green, Backworth Lane (opposite The East Farm Mews junction).
Cullercoats
An act of remembrance will be conducted on conclusion of the main Sunday morning service at St George’s Church, Cullercoats. The service commences at 9.30am followed by wreath laying by local ward councillors at the war memorial inside the church. Additionally, there will be smaller act of remembrance on November 11 at 11am by the memorial outside the church.
Monkseaton
A service of remembrance organised by St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, will commence at 10.50am outside the Ship Inn, Monkseaton.
Shiremoor
An act of remembrance and wreath laying will be conducted at 11am at the Shiremoor War Memorial, Earsdon Road, Shiremoor.
Tynemouth
The parade will assemble outside the Holy Saviours Parish Hall to march down Manor Road to the memorial for commencement of the service at 11am.
West Allotment
An act of remembrance and wreath laying will take place at 11am at the memorial on Benton Road.
Wideopen
The parade will form up outside St Columba’s Parish Church, Bridge Street leaving at 10.45am to the Wideopen Memorial for commencement of the service at 11am.
Wallsend Memorial Hall, 11 November
A service of remembrance will be held at 11am on Armistice Day outside the Memorial Hall on Frank Street in site of the First World War Memorial.
