Searching for stars of seaside town

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for their community?

North Tyneside Council is looking for people or organisations that are outstanding.

The Whitley Bay Town Cup is presented annually for hosting an outstanding event or provided outstanding service for the community in and around Whitley Bay.

The history of the cup dates back to 1954 when it was introduced by the former Whitley Bay Council. It was donated to North Tyneside Council in its formation in 1974.

Councillors of the former borough of Whitley Bay, will consider the nominations in December, with the Chair of the Council, Wendy Lott, presenting the award in January.

Speaking on the Town Cup, Cllr Lott said “The Whitley Bay Town Cup is always an exciting time of year and a great way for us to recognise the work that the community puts into making their seaside town a great place to live, work and visit.”

Last year’s cup was presented to Whitley Bay Sporting Club after judges recognised the outstanding effort the organisation puts in to providing opportunities for the town’s young people.

Nomination forms are available by visiting www.northtyneside.gov.uk and searching for ‘Town Cup’, by calling (0191) 643 5313 or by emailing democraticsupport@northtyneside.gov.uk.

The closing date for nominations will be on November 27 and only individuals or organisations from the former borough of Whitley Bay can be considered for the award.

Previous winners of the award include Shirkara, The Jam Jar Cinema and The BAY Foodbank.
