From September 2019 to date, North Tyneside Council has employed a total of 29 new apprentices in a variety of roles across different service areas.
Employing apprentices helps the council shape its workforce to develop the skills to deliver ambitious plans for the future. The council is committed to supporting local people into employment and the Apprenticeship Academy is one of the key ways of achieving this goal.
Apprentices have been appointed in a wide range of roles from quantity surveying and catering, to joinery and human resources.
Aimee Given, recently recruited as a Business Admin Apprentice said: “I was really happy when I found out I was successful with getting a business admin apprenticeship because I am 19 and I genuinely thought I was too old to do something like this.
“Completing this apprenticeship will really open a lot of doors for me and I can’t wait for my future in business admin.”
As well as being supported to develop new skills and start their career, apprentices provide a fresh perspective and it’s a great opportunity to get new insight on how services are delivered. The new employees bring new ideas and a willingness to question and challenge existing practice, meaning teams are encouraged to continually strive to do better.
North Tyneside Council has also signed up to the National Graduate Development Programme for a second year running, with applications open to students graduating next summer until early January 2020.
