Elected Mayor appoints new Cabinet

New Cabinet Members have been appointed by the Elected Mayor of North Tyneside following her re-election to a third term.

Norma Redfearn, CBE, was elected last week after gaining a majority after the first counting of votes.

Mayor Redfearn has held the position of Elected Mayor since 2013 and as she starts her third term she thanked the people of North Tyneside for their support.

She has also thanked Cabinet Members who have now left the Cabinet and welcomed new Councillors into senior positions.

She said: “I am humbled to be elected to a third time, and with an increased share of the vote.

“My priorities now include a focus on the green agenda, regeneration right across the Borough and also how we tackle inequalities which the pandemic has exposed more than ever.

“To achieve my goals I have appointed some new Councillors to senior positions as Cabinet Members.

“My thanks go to those Cabinet colleagues who have served under my previous term. I would also like to thank all council staff who continue to work tirelessly alongside local volunteers to serve our residents and businesses as we continue our recovery from the pandemic.

“I am excited to have appointed some new Councillors to Cabinet who I know will work with dedication for our residents and businesses. As a listening council I know they will work with communities to help shape our decision making and help us keep North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit.”

Local Councillors have also been elected for 20 wards in the borough following the vote last week. The political make up of the council is now 51 Labour Councillors and 9 Conservative Councillors.
