A new reading initiative is aiming to get everyone in Wallsend on the same page.
Wallsend Library is inviting people to take part in a community reading project and will be circulating 100 copies of The Dinner Club, by Wallsend author Helen Aitchison, for people to read and then pass on to family and friends.
The project, Wallsend Reads, aims to spark a love of books, and connect people through a shared reading experience.
From February 14, copies of the book will be available at the library and other community venues, while library staff will be handing out copies in the town centre.
Councillor Sandra Graham, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said: “We want as many of our residents as possible to get involved and to help get this book doing the rounds.
“Whether you’re an infrequent reader or an avid reader, this project should be a lot of fun and is a great way of bringing people together with a common interest and engaging a wider audience with their local library.
“To be able to promote a local author make this extra special and it’ll be great if we can support Helen and point more readers in her direction.”
Speaking about her book, Helen said: “The story centres on five very different people, each with a secret, who come together at a dining club.
“The book focuses on love, loss, hope, friendship, and acceptance. It’s very emotional, but with Geordie humour. This is a feel-good book that hopefully people can relate to.”
Anyone who reads the book can write a review for the library noticeboard or share photos on social media of themselves with the book, using #WallsendReads.
