Five new qualifications means five new members of the Children’s Public Health team

Caitlin Wetherill, Beth Grey, Brionie Riches, Abby Edminson and Sarah Reed are celebrating as they all complete their 18 month apprenticeship through North Tyneside Council and Northumbria University.

This apprenticeship is a specific programme of postgraduate study for qualified nurses and/or midwives who wish to specialise in health visiting and/or school nursing.

Now qualified to masters level, all five have studied and worked in the community simultaneously throughout the duration of their 18 month apprenticeship to gain their Specialist Community Public Health Nurse registration.

All five have now taken up posts, four as Health Visitors and one as a School Nurse, in the 0-19 Children’s Public Health team. Each will be responsible for supporting families across North Tyneside as they become new parents and navigate the world of raising children.

Cllr Karen Clark, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing at North Tyneside Council, said: “We would like to celebrate and congratulate Abby, Beth, Brionie, Caitlin and Sarah for this fantastic achievement.

“They have all been great assets to the team over the last 18 months and we are thrilled they have taken up new roles now they have completed their qualifications.”

This avenue of learning and education is an opportunity for individuals to learn the specialist public health practice skills that will be required in Health Visitor and School Nurse roles. The team has a wide range of responsibilities including antenatal advice, developmental assessments, infant feeding support, information on safe sleep and coping with crying, guidance on healthy eating, and all-encompassing assistance to parents, carers and guardians.
