Local businesses and third sector organisations are invited to a free event hosted by the North Tyneside Climate Emergency Board, to learn how they can benefit their organisations through energy efficiency and carbon reduction in a changing climate.
The half-day event will take place at the Village Hotel, Cobalt Business Park, Silverlink North, on the 6 July 2023, from 9.30 – 11.30am.
Any local business, no matter the size or sector, can attend to learn about adaption to a changing climate, receive direct support to move towards a carbon net-zero future, and find out more about the North Tyneside Carbon Reduction Award Scheme.
Delegates will hear from Greggs, Proctor and Gamble, Northumbria Healthcare Trust and North Tyneside Council, as well as other household names, on how they are working to reduce their carbon emissions in the face of the climate crisis. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with other businesses and the Climate Emergency Board.
Cllr Sandra Graham, cabinet member for the Climate Emergency and Joint Chair of the Authority’s Net Zero 2030 Board, said: “Following the success of our first carbon reduction seminar last November, I am thrilled to announce we will be hosting yet another event for local businesses. It’s a fantastic opportunity for businesses to discover how they can further their contribution to the fight against the climate crisis.
“There is still a lot of work to do when it comes to carbon reduction and embracing the great work already being carried out by other companies is a brilliant way for businesses to assess whether they can do more.
“The more businesses that commit to managing their energy, the better chance we have at preventing the climate emergency from becoming any more critical.”
The upcoming event follows North Tyneside Council’s ambitious plan to become Carbon Net Zero by 2030. As part of this commitment, the council is dedicated to helping other local businesses achieve efficient energy management and, ultimately, build a brighter forecast for the future of our climate.
The borough-wide Climate Emergency Board was set up by the council, to address the urgent need for action in the fight against climate change. The board is made up of public sector organisations and commercial and industrial businesses, collectively working to combat the climate crisis.
The businesses represented at the event are all existing members of the board and thus have embarked on a pathway to reduce carbon emissions and work collectively to support development projects which will contribute to the 2030 Action Plan.
Cllr Graham added: “The council is committed to helping businesses effectively manage their corporate responsibility roles, companies that do this successfully ensure that they are monitoring the impact their organisation makes on society and the environment. The Climate Board’s event will help businesses to better understand their corporate responsibility and ensure that they are operating in a way that is sustainable.”
