Love Parks Week is an annual campaign which celebrates parks, green spaces, and the dedicated volunteers and workers that look after them all year round.
These vibrant, living spaces bring communities together and provide an opportunity to connect with nature in the heart of our cities, towns, and neighbourhoods.
North Tyneside Council has organised a series of events and activities in two of our Green Flag award-winning parks, giving people the opportunity to explore and appreciate our green spaces, connect with nature, and enjoy the tranquillity and beauty these locations have to offer.
This year’s week of action includes a serious message too and aims to address inequality in women and girls feeling able to safely access parks.
In North Tyneside, we are fortunate to have several parks with dedicated park teams on duty between 7:30am and 6pm in the summer months, and until 4pm in the winter. This improves the sense of safety for all visitors and reduces the incidents of intimidation and violence. Additionally, we have installed a help point in Richardson Dees Park, which connects to the control room and can alert the emergency services to that location and we have drawn up 57 action plans aiming to 'design out' crime with improved lighting and by cutting back vegetation to improve visibility and make our parks safer for everyone.
So join us, this Love Parks week, as we celebrate the spaces we love, and ensure they remain cherished, accessible and safe places for all to enjoy.
