A free family festival with live music, entertainment, stalls and children’s activities is returning to Northumberland Square, North Shields on Saturday 2 September.
North Tyneside Together celebrates diversity and multiculturalism, and local organisations and groups will be performing and putting on activities for everyone to get involved with. Festival goers can enjoy a range of international food too, with burgers, noodles, Greek and vegan choices on offer.
The event will be held in Northumberland Square between 11am and 4pm.
It’s part of a bigger day of celebration in North Shields, as Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, Dame Norma Redfearn DBE, will be opening the new Transport Hub and public square. Singers from North Shields will be performing on a stage next to the new square.
The history and heritage of North Shields will be celebrated, with free activities, exhibitions and performances organised by Heritage Action Cultural Partners, in and around Howard Street.
North Tyneside Together is organised by North Tyneside Council’s Ethnic Diversity Community Task Force, whose members work together to tackle racism and celebrate equality and diversity throughout North Tyneside.
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Dame Norma Redfearn DBE, said: “North Tyneside is a wonderfully diverse place; celebrating our differences serves to strengthen the connections we’ve built between and across our communities.
“North Tyneside Together is a beautiful event, in its third year, that gives us the opportunity to share in one another’s cultures and learn about each other’s traditions.
“I hope to see as many people as possible out enjoying the celebrations across North Shields town centre on September 2nd.”
