North Tyneside Council has been praised for its response to domestic abuse as it retains its top accreditation from the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).
The accreditation is a benchmark in supporting survivors of domestic abuse which the Council has proudly held since 2020.
Three years on from its first assessment, the Council has undergone to rigorous re-accreditation process and once again cemented its proactive approach to addressing domestic abuse in North Tyneside.
The authorities’ housing service, which provides a home for 16,000 number of tenants, will continue to be a DAHA accredited housing provider.
Staff have been equipped with the tools and knowledge that they need to confidently identify, report, and respond well to domestic abuse through its safety led and survivor centred approach.
Cllr John Harrison, Cabinet Member for Housing at North Tyneside Council, has expressed his pride in the accreditation: “Retaining this accreditation is something we’re all extremely proud of, it’s been a tremendous effort across the Council and this announcement is a testament to that ongoing work.
“It has a real positive impact for our tenants and residents and helps us to provide the best possible support to those who need it.
“We’re committed to making our borough a safe place to live and this work goes a long way to ensuring the wellbeing of our residents.”
The rigorous re-accreditation process saw the service assessed on its response and support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse and to holding people causing harm to account.
Keeping residents and tenants safe and protected is at the heart if the service, and the Council have ensured that everything from policies and procedures to staff support are focused around protecting everyone involved.
