More green awards for North Tyneside Council

Cllr Sandra Graham receiving award

North Tyneside Council has won another two national awards for its efforts to become more carbon neutral.

The council won Silver in the recent National Energy Efficiency Awards, for Best Local Authority, and has also been awarded Bronze status by the Carbon Literacy Project.

The council set itself an ambitious aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, and these awards are national recognition of how seriously the authority takes the climate emergency, and how hard staff are working to combat it.

Councillor Sandra Graham, Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, said:

“I am so proud to receive these awards on behalf of the council. We’re working hard in all four corners of the Borough to reduce our carbon footprint, and this recognition is testament to that.

“We’re doing what we can as a council, from making small changes to how we work day to day, to supporting huge and innovative projects.

“Our carbon emissions are decreasing every year, and we’re delighted with that, but we know we have a lot of work to do, if we want to make North Tyneside a greener place to live, work and raise a family”.

In the last 12 months, North Tyneside Council has won:

Best Local Authority, National Energy Efficiency Awards, Silver

Best Local Authority, North East Energy Efficiency Award, Gold

Carbon Literacy Project, Bronze Status

‘Best Non-Residential extension or alteration’, Local Authority Building Control Excellence Awards, Winner (for the new, energy-efficient Killingworth site)
