Thousands of shoppers are expected to turn out to one of the region’s most popular Christmas markets next weekend.
The North Shields Christmas Market returns on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December, to Northumberland Square, Howard Street and the new Town Square outside the Transport Hub in North Shields town centre.
The event will see over 80 stalls selling a wide variety of festive gifts, crafts and food and drink produce.
Local churches and the Salvation Army will open the market at 10am on the Saturday with a short service, followed by performances from local choirs and schoolchildren throughout the weekend.
A food and drink village can be found at Northumberland Square featuring some of region’s favourite street food traders and bars selling mulled wine.
There will be a selection of fairground rides and colourful character walkabouts with a chance to have photos taken. They’ll be found browsing the stalls and food and drink village.
Additional stalls, live music and fairground rides can also be found in the new Town Square outside the new Transport Hub.
Families can meet some Christmas characters at the Beacon Centre and enjoy free festive crafts and games, both days between 11am and 2pm.
North Shields Customer First Centre will be offering Christmas craft activities between 10am and 3pm both days, alongside a range of stalls including the Young Mayor’s swap shop, RNLI, St John’s Ambulance and a knit and natter group.
Model railway fans can visit the Blyth and Tyne Model Railway event throughout the weekend, between 10am and 4pm at their venue above Asda in Saville Street. There will be over 30 model railway layouts including a new Lego railway, trade stalls and refreshments.
The market is open 10am until 5pm on Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
The event is organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by the Beacon Shopping Centre.
