which will drive forward our plans to give young people and adults the best possible outcomes.

Mark Mirfin has taken a new  role in the Council, as Head of Service, Commissioning, Partnerships and Transformation. He is bringing together a range of services, including our statutory Special Educational Needs and Disability Services, Children and Families Commissioning, Strategy and Transformation, Home to School Transport, Admissions and the Children’s Safeguarding Partnership.

Leading on our SEND improvement journey and with responsibility for the High Needs and Early Years Block, Mark said ‘I’m delighted to be staying in North Tyneside in this new role; I’m from North Tyneside and it’s a privilege to bring these range of services together, supporting us, with parents and carers, to give our children the best start in life, and our young people and adults the greatest opportunities in the borough’

After 35 years working for us, Rebecca Eden is taking partial retirement and is moving into a newly created, part-time role for the Council, as Senior Manager for SEND Quality of Practice. With children, young people, parents and carers, and partners, it’s so important to us all that we have the strongest services delivering the best outcomes, and in Rebecca’s role, she will create and embed our SEND Quality of Practice Framework, strengthen our understanding of the impact we are making, and ensure we have the right plans in place to build from where we are.

Rebecca said: "I started my career in a Special School in 1986 and have led the SEND Support Service for three years, during which time the service has gone from strength to strength, increasing from two teams to four, now with an EHC Needs Assessment Team, Annual Review Team, Phase Transfer Team and a Preparation for Adulthood Team.  It feels fitting that I should spend the last years of my career in a role focussed on ensuring the highest standards for the children and families we serve"

Faye Bradford  will replace Rebecca as the Senior Manager for the SEND Support Service. Faye joined the service in May 2023 and has already established strong working relationships with schools, settings and the wider partnership.

Faye shared: "I am overjoyed to accept the role of Senior Manager for the SEND Support Service. Inclusion and the support of children and young people with SEND is something which has always been important to me, and this has guided my career to this point. I look forward to working alongside Rebecca to build upon the developments already made in the service".

Sarah Douglas, Vice Chair of the Parent Carer Forum, who supported the interview process for the Senior Manager of the SEND Support Service, said ‘I am thrilled Faye has accepted the role; I was impressed by her expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm, and North Tyneside Parent Carer Forum are looking forward to Faye starting in this role’.
