The council is set to begin a tidy-up of Cullercoats Boatyard in response to concerns from local people.
The site is designated for the storage of active fishing vessels and leisure craft and plays an important role in the community and the heritage of Cullercoats.
However, the space has become cluttered with derelict vessels and boat parts as well as environmental hazards such as diesel spills, tractor tyres, and discarded fishing nets.
To ensure the site functions as intended, we are reminding boat owners to carry out repairs offsite, in line with existing regulations. We've updated our licence terms to help maintain a safe and functional space that balances the needs of residents, the local environment, and the fishing and leisure craft community.
Residents can expect to see improvements in the coming weeks.
