Remembrance events in North Tyneside

North Tyneside will honour those who sacrificed their lives in war with a series of Remembrance events throughout the borough.

The council will hold services on Remembrance Sunday, 10 November, and on Armistice Day, Monday 11 November.

Large screens will be available at North Shields and Whitley Bay to ensure everyone has a clear view of the proceedings.

All events are free and open to the public. Full details for each event are provided below.

QR codes will be located in Killingworth, Longbenton, North Shields, Wallsend, and Whitley Bay, offering digital access to the order of service. Printed copies will also be available on the day.

Remembrance Services and Parades – North Tyneside

Sunday 10 November 2024 – Remembrance Sunday Parades

North Shields
Location: Hawkeys Lane, North Shields – 10.55am
A rolling road closure will be in place from 10am to 12pm, covering Hawkeys Lane. Additionally, Hawkeys Lane will be permanently closed from 9am to 12pm at its junction with Lansdowne Terrace and Spring Gardens.

Whitley Bay
Location: The Links, Whitley Bay – 3pm
A rolling road closure will begin at 2.15pm, proceeding along Station Road, Victoria Terrace, Whitley Road, Park Avenue, Marine Avenue, and Watts Slope until 3pm.

Tynemouth
Location: War Memorial, Village Green – 11am
A rolling road closure will start at 10.15am, affecting Huntingdon Place and Manor Road (between Huntingdon Place and Percy Park Road) until 11.35 am. Manor Road will remain closed for the service, from 11.35am to approximately 12pm.

Wallsend
Location: Burn Close War Memorial – 11am
A rolling road closure will begin at 10.30am, covering Richardson Street, High Street East, Church Bank, St Peters Road, Burn Bank, Archer Street, and Burn Close. The parade will return along the same route, concluding at Wallsend Town Hall by 12pm.

Forest Hall
Location: St Bartholomew's Church, Longbenton - 11am. Parade leaves Forest Hall Institute Club at 10.40am.

A rolling road closure will begin at 10.25am, covering Crescent Way North, Forest Hall Road, Station Road, and Station Road North, concluding at 11.15am.

Wideopen
Location: Seaton Burn war memorial – 10.55am
A rolling road closure will start at 10.30am, covering Bridge Street and heading north along the B1318 to the Seaton Burn War Memorial. The parade will then return south to St Columbas Church, concluding at 11.30am.

Shiremoor
Location: Earsdon Road – Service at 11am
Road closure will be in place from 10.45am to 11.30am at Earsdon Road, at its junction with Lesbury Avenue.

Monday 11 November 2024

White Swan Centre, Killingworth
A Civic Service of Remembrance will be held at the Post-1945 Jig Saw Memorial at 11am, followed by the laying of wreaths and Remembrance Crosses. Please note, there is no procession on Monday.
