Rising Sun Parkrun takeover planned to tackle violence against women and girls

For the third year in a row, we are inviting residents to join a dedicated parkrun takeover at the Rising Sun Country Park as part of our 16 days of action campaign.

The takeover is set to build on the success of last year, with those taking part encouraged to light up the park with flashes of orange to represent a brighter future for all women and girls.

Joining with These Girls Can Run, the event has become an annual opportunity for women and men to come together, show their support for the campaign and raise awareness of the support on offer.

The run will take place on Saturday 23 November at 9am. You don’t have to run to take part, walkers are welcome too.

Our teams and partners will be on had to provide information about the support on offer in North Tyneside.

Those attending are asked to bring a donation of toiletries where possible to support those using the refuge.

Councillor Karen Clark, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing at North Tyneside Council, said: “Each year it is fantastic to see men and women from our communities come together to take a stand against domestic abuse.

“This parkrun takeover is just one of the many things we’re doing during the 16 days of action to end violence against women and girls.

“We know there’s more to do to challenge cultures that lead to abuse and violence, particularly against women, and it’s events like these that highlight our strength and determination as a community to make a change.”

We are proud to be a White Ribbon accredited organisation. White Ribbon UK works to engage men and boys in speaking out about violence against women and girls, to challenge gender stereotypes underpinning such violence and to challenge cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence against women.
