A timetable and project plan for a new Local Plan have been approved by North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet.
The Local Plan is a long-term strategy for where development will and won’t occur in North Tyneside.
It’s a key policy tool which considers national policies and guidance and responds to local issues and priorities in North Tyneside – especially those in the Council’s ‘Our North Tyneside Plan’.
It will set out policies and proposals that aim to strengthen the unique qualities that make North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit.
The new Local Plan will establish a framework up to 2042 which will ensure the Borough continues to grow sustainably, protecting green spaces whilst responding to the need for more affordable housing and economic growth.
The first stage of public engagement will start this summer, marking the beginning of many opportunities for residents to give their views and shape the proposals.
Final proposals will be considered by Council in 2026, before being submitted to the government for examination in public prior to the new Plan’s expected adoption in 2027/28.
