With energy bills set to rise this week, Home Energy Advice North East is offering North Tyneside residents support to help to reduce the amount they spend on energy.
Home Energy Advice North East brings together expert advice and links to local grants and installers to provide a one stop shop for those looking to reduce their energy bills and improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
The scheme is commissioned by the North East Combined Authority and paid for using external government funding.
In North Tyneside, expert advisors from Energy Saving Trust are available to provide over-the-phone advice to support residents in making energy saving home improvements like insulation or updating their heating system. They can also help access available funding, and signpost to local installers, making it easier for people to take action. Since launching in spring 2024, Home Energy Advice North East has supported 1,643 North East residents with free advice. In North Tyneside , the service has helped 302 households to decrease their energy bills by making cost effective adaptations to their homes. These range from draught-proofing and insulation to low carbon heating and solar panels.
The service’s partnership with Groundwork North East and Cumbria and Community Action Northumberland means that energy advisers can engage directly with residents at community events and in home visits. This is an opportunity for residents to gain free, no obligation advice about the saving options available. Since spring 2024, 834 home visits have been made in the North East and many households have taken advice to improve their home’s energy efficiency.
