A North Shields 800 Celebration event will bring the town’s community together for a day-long party with a festival atmosphere.
The midsummer event is a key date in the North Shields 800 calendar of projects and events, celebrating North Shields past, present and future and marking the town’s historic anniversary.
It will be held at the North Shields FC ground at Silkey’s Lane on Saturday 21 June from 11am to 7pm.
There will be attractions for all ages including a stage with live music and entertainment, inflatables, rides, stalls, face painting, character walkabouts, a festival of football, food and licensed bars.
Tickets are priced at £2 for adults and £1 for children and are available here. The event is made possible thanks to support from the North East Combined Authority.
The festival of football will feature players from North Shields Athletic girls and women’s teams playing four games across four pitches, 16 games in total.
North Shields FC Chairman Dennis Scarth said: “We are delighted to be playing our part in the North Shields 800 celebrations by hosting this major event.
“We had a brilliant fun day last year and this North Shields 800 event will be bigger, better and more spectacular, with top class live music, rides and a bouncy castle for the kids, hot food and refreshments, and our club bars open for the day.
“We took ownership of the club in May last year and community support is crucial to what we do. We have more than 8,000 followers on our social media and we have welcomed 10,000 fans to our ground this season, which goes to show how important the club is to the people of North Shields.
“We are proud to be part of the heritage of the area, with the history of the club dating back to 1896. Football is in the lifeblood of this town.”
Chair of the North Shields 800 Committee, Sir Alan Campbell MP, said: “The community of North Shields is at the heart of our 800th anniversary celebrations.
“This event has something for everyone and is a great opportunity for people of all ages to connect and celebrate together on a very enjoyable day out.
This is a real highlight of our calendar of projects and events, which runs throughout 2025.
“Many thanks to North Shields FC for hosting this event, and for the important role the club plays in the life of the town.”
Elected Mayor of North Tyneside Karen Clark said: “It is wonderful to see all the exciting attractions in store for this North Shields 800 celebration event.
“There is so much for families and people of all ages to enjoy, and I am looking forward to seeing the community come together at North Shields FC for this special day.
“It is just one of a series of North Shields 800 highlight events this summer, which will inspire pride in the town, attract visitors, boost local businesses and bring people together to have a great time.”
Other highlights of the North Shields 800 celebrations taking place in June include YMCA Picnic in the Park on June 7, the Parade of Boats and Blessing of the Fleet on 20 June, and the North Shields 800 Community Day at the Linskill Centre on 28 June.
