North Tyneside marks Armed Forces Day 2025

Young cadets from across North Tyneside will come together to mark Armed Forces Day 2025, celebrating the work and dedication of the UK’s armed forces community.

The event will take place on Saturday 21st June 2025 at Churchill Playing Fields, Monkseaton and will bring together Sea, Air, Royal Marine and Army cadets for a day of fun and challenging activities.

Starting at 10am, the programme includes an obstacle course, rowing machine challenges, first aid, tug of war, and memory-based games, designed to test the cadets’ teamwork and practical skills.

Members of the public are invited to come along and celebrate the day, with a climbing wall on offer for young people and their families, as well as food and coffee trucks.

The day will conclude with a presentation at 2.30pm from North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor Karen Clark.

Cllr Andy Newman, North Tyneside’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Not only is this event a great opportunity for our young cadets to challenge themselves and demonstrate their skills, but also for our community to come together and show our support and appreciation for the contributions made by our armed forces.”

Parking at the event will be limited so visitors are encouraged to use public transport where possible.

As part of Armed Forces Week, North Tyneside Council is continuing its commitment to the Armed Forces through its partnership with the Veterans’ Walk.

A display is set to be created at Whitley Bay Cenotaph, made up of personalised granite stones bearing the names, regiment and number of years in service for Armed Forces personnel, both currently serving and former members.

More information on how to order a stone can be found on North Tyneside Council’s website.

North Tyneside Council provides a range of support on housing, welfare, and health services for veterans and serving personnel. Its Armed Forces Officer, Nick Jobson, will be available at the event to support any member of the armed forces or veterans who feel like they need a bit of a helping hand.

The Armed Forces Flag will be displayed outside of the council’s offices at Quadrant, on Cobalt Business Park, and its Killingworth Depot, throughout Armed Forces Week.

North Tyneside Council is also offering free swimming or gym for all members of the Armed Forces, including Reservists and Veterans between Sat 28th June and Friday 4th July 2025.
